I've had this system for about six months now, and at first I was thrilled with it. Clunky as it was, I wonder if I could still find one of those on eBay. just before the phones ring.
Based on previous experience with Panasonic products, I expected this phone to have a reasonable life span; we are not hard on our electronics. It also has begun crackling when any of the satellites is in use, and I'm already looking for my next phone. I liked the ease of setting the satellites up, and the pronunciation of the talking caller ID is a source of high hilarity in our household.
In my experience, that sound has never signaled longevity. However, six months into this Panasonic experience and one of the satellites is dead already for no apparent reason. Even worse, the mother ship is now making short-circuit sounds (ZZZZZZZTT).
My parents' household made it through my entire child- and young-adulthood on a single telephone. Shopping for telephones every six months is NOT my idea of a good time.
Let me say first that I like this phone and have using it for a year with no problems. So it ends up sitting at an angle.The 3 base units failed slowly over the last year, but after talking with Panasonic and figuring out the problem they are working fine now. I'm not sure if that matters.This is the first Panasonic product that I have had any problem with after 15-20 years of owning many different products.The problem is that the adapter that plugs into the wall has a poorly designed connector that plugs into the base unit.
I have no complaints about anything except the design of the extension phone base units. I have to push it in and wiggle it around frequently to get them to start charging again. The quality of the reception is good with no static.
This is the base unit that holds the extension phones, there are 3 total. So overall I give it 5 stars, but the following problem is a nuisance and even though everything works fine now, it is not up to Panasonic standards. It was made in Malaysia.
Or the angle of the phone in the holder has to be adjusted with masking tape to get the connection to be right. When I called Panasonic they wouldn't admit that it was a poor design and just one replacement, there are 3 total costs $28 if not under warrantee.
Plus,I rec'd a $30 credit for opening an Amazon.com account. I am TOTALLY pleased. The sleek, attractive look, the clarity and great functionality are excellent. So, the $66 bargain actually became a $36 STEAL. I especially love the talking ID component.
Ordered from, and confirmed by Amazon, the equipment was ordered on Amazon's UK website, from a UK address, for delivery to the same UK address. The phones were supplied by an American Amazon merchant without my authority. The merchant supplied equipment earmarked by the manufacturer as being for use in the USA.The problems arising from the unusabilty in the UK of the equipment are self evident, making regrettable the absence of Amazon customer service and it's help to compensate for a situation of Amazon's making.Indeed, but for the Cardholder protection afforded and promptly given by American Express a court action might have resulted.
Great sound quality. Works perfectly but not happy with 2 features. 1)it records a message with all hang up calls and when I call screeen hang ups the speaker always emits a dial tone. 2) I knew when I purchased it that it did not record the # of messages and I did not feel that I would miss that feature but since we have several people in the house who listen to messages the next person might only realize that there is a "new" message that someone else has heard if the number of messages are recorded.
